Difficult Conversations – how to discuss what matters most

More about one of the Lines of Sight tools:

The Difficult Conversations workshop

This three week programme combines:

  • A reading programme using Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton & Sheila Heen as a starting point
  • An action / reflection model based on a case study of each participant's choosing
  • Small group work (3 - 4 people only) so that individual learning needs can be addressed and coaching personalised

The expectation is that participants will learn to:

  • recognise what is and what is not being said
  • identify the often erroneous assumptions we make that often have little to do with actual intentions
  • acknowledge and manage strong feelings
  • transform anxieties into helpful interventions.

How it works:

  1. Three workshop sessions lasting 3 hours, over 3 weeks, followed by a 1:1 follow-up session
  2. Participants read and reflect on set passages each week, and
  3. Actively explore their own difficult conversation, based around a current situation in which they are involved
  4. Set action plans for the following week.

2006 workshops will commence in:

  •   late January
  •   April
  •   August
